The Banneker Trojans waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Tri-Cities 70-67. The victory was all the more spectacular given Banneker's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Tri-Cities is ranked 58th).
Tri-Cities' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tre Keith, who scored 25 points along with four steals. That was a full 37.3% of Tri-Cities' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tramarius Jones, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Banneker's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Tri-Cities, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Banneker will face off against Midtown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Tri-Cities, they will head out on the road to take on Chapel Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
