The South Pointe Griffins fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the East Valley Athletes for Christ Eagles on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 69-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. South Pointe's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why South Pointe lost, one person who can't be blamed is Prince Sohn. Despite the final result, he scored 34 points.
Ajay Hoover had an outrageously good game for East Valley Athletes for Christ as he scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Hoover is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Ryan Anderson, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
South Pointe's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for East Valley Athletes for Christ, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Pointe will take on Imagine Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Imagine Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Pointe in Arizona (Imagine Prep is ranked 16th, while South Pointe is ranked 64th). As for East Valley Athletes for Christ, they will head out on the road to challenge Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
