On Friday, Marathon was the victim of a rough 71-50 loss at the hands of Whitman-Hanson Regional. While losing is never fun, Marathon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 640th in Florida, while Whitman-Hanson Regional is ranked 153rd in Massachusetts).
Marathon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DAESHAWN HOLMES, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. HOLMES is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was ADRIAN CRUZ, who scored 20 points.
Marathon has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Whitman-Hanson Regional, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marathon will square off against Key West at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Key West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. Whitman-Hanson Regional will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Duxbury at 6:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
