Desert View hasn't had much luck against Cienega recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. Desert View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Tucson High Magnet School hit Desert View with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars fell 8-5 to the Badgers. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jorge Zazueta made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Joshua Valenzuela, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Cienega had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Bobcats have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
ANTHONY MONTEZ was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. LUTE CHAVEZ was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Cienega hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marana struck out six times.
Cienega's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Desert View, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Desert View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Cienega struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Desert View suffered a grim 13-6 defeat to Cienega when the teams last played on Tuesday. Will the Jaguars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
