The Saginaw Rough Riders had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They escaped with a win on Friday against Azle by the margin of a single free throw, 37-36. The win was just what Saginaw needed coming off of a 80-12 defeat in their prior contest.
Saginaw found their leader in underclassman Shaniah Franklin, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. Jazmine Duncan was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds.
Saginaw's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14. As for Azle, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Saginaw will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Granbury at 6:15 p.m. Granbury presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Saginaw in Texas (Granbury is ranked 239th, while Saginaw is ranked 870th). As for Azle, they will head out on the road to face off against Aledo at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Aledo is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 12 games.
