Elk Grove has gone 6-1 against Franklin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will host the Franklin Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
On Tuesday, Elk Grove came up short against Laguna Creek and fell 3-1. While the Thundering Herd didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cardinals 25-21 in the first set.
Elk Grove started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Franklin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Monterey Trail, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered since February 27th.
Franklin was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Monterey Trail work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 26-24, 25-18.
Elk Grove will have to contain Sean An as he made an impact in Franklin's last game. He had 16 digs and two aces. That's the most aces An has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tadon Tran, who had 12 assists and six digs.
Franklin's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Elk Grove, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Elk Grove took their win against Franklin in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0. Does Elk Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Franklin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
