The Ashley Screaming Eagle can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They snuck past Croatan with a 47-42 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given Ashley's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Croatan is ranked 121st).
Leading Ashley to victory were Coen Locklear and Keyon Jones. Locklear scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, while Jones dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Locklear's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Quinn Bentley was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six assists.
Despite the loss, Croatan saw an underclassman step up: Kannon McBride scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Green, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Ashley's win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Croatan, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashley will take on New Hanover at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Croatan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Havelock at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
