Springport and Bronson are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Springport Spartans will be playing at home against the Bronson Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Springport posted their biggest victory since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They breezed by Quincy at home to the tune of 63-31. Given Springport's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Quincy is ranked 545th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Springport can attribute much of their success to Chloey Speer, who scored 18 points along with three steals, and Maddux Locke, who scored 18 points along with nine assists and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Speer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Crittenden, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Bronson blew past Maple Valley, posting a 65-4 win at home. The victory was just what Bronson needed coming off of a 54-31 defeat in their prior game.
Springport's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Bronson, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Springport came up short against Bronson in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 47-39. Can Springport avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
