Given Seward Park's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Norman Thomas is ranked 603rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Norman Thomas lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaden Chazulle. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Guzman, who scored seven points.
Seward Park has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. As for Norman Thomas, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.
