Basketball Recap: Sydney Reinhart Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

Mitchell took a 35-point defeat the last time they faced off against Fivay, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mitchell Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Fivay Falcons 48-45. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Falcons are ranked 319th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mitchell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sydney Reinhart out in front who posted 12 points. Reinhart is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Priya Jacob, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Mitchell was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fivay only racked up eight assists.

When it comes to explaining why Fivay lost, don't look at Naimah Mota. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. That's the most points Mota has posted since back in January of 2024. Jordana Montaner Rodgers was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Mitchell has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Fivay, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Mitchell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-46 victory against Wiregrass Ranch on the 23rd. Fivay has also already played their next matchup, a 72-39 win against Land O' Lakes on the 22nd.
