It was a good run, but the El Capitan Gauchos unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a hard 57-40 fall against Golden Valley. El Capitan was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, El Capitan still got an impressive performance from Ian Vasquez Gomez, who scored six points.
Golden Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ricardo Perez, who scored 16 points. Joseph Spielman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
El Capitan's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-10. As for Golden Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.
El Capitan will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Patterson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully the Gauchos like a good challenge. As for Golden Valley, they will head out on the road to take on the Hawks at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1070th, while the Cougars are ranked 337th).
