The Gibbon Buffaloes struggled with assists on Friday (the Arcadia/Loup City Rebels had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Gibbon had to suffer through a rough 58-16 loss at the hands of Arcadia/Loup City. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gibbon in their matchups with Arcadia/Loup City: they've now lost nine in a row.
Carla Murillo-Corona was Gibbon's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Claire Clark held things down on the boards with six rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Arcadia/Loup City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eva Jaixen led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jaixen has scored at least 25% of Arcadia/Loup City's points. Another player making a difference was Tayler Obermiller, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Gibbon's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Arcadia/Loup City, their victory bumped their record up to 2-7.
Gibbon and Shelton will face off at 5:45 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Shelton's defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so Gibbon's offense will have their work cut out for Gibbon. As for Arcadia/Loup City, they will head out on the road to face off against Wood River at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wood River presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Arcadia/Loup City in Nebraska (Wood River is ranked 119th, while Arcadia/Loup City is ranked 239th).
