5A Region 1 recap November 5, 2013
Oxford extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 1 this week by beating Center Hill, 56-27. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Chargers.
Oxford took down the Mustangs 56-27 last week, the largest margin of any game.
New Hope's dynamic duo of Brady Davis and Jason Dickerson proved tough for West Point to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Davis threw for 506 yards and 6 touchdowns and Dickerson had 228 yards receiving. Victor Deloach helped New Hope's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 190 yards.
Dickerson had a great week catching the football as the Trojans lost to the Green Wave. He caught 5 passes for 228 yards.
Bryce Evans was a key player and the best on defense this week as Center Hill fell to Johnny Hill's team. He recorded 1 fumble.
Diamante Pounds was a beast in the backfield as Saltillo bested Lewisburg.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Lake Cormorant's Bailey Walker and Ryan Golden have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Walker has thrown for 2,490 yards this season, while Golden has 54 catches for 894 yards. Pounds from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 1,800 yards.
Going into this week's contest against Lake Cormorant, the Chargers' Jack Abraham needs 199 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. Accruing a total of 21 touchdowns this year, Abraham has thrown for 1,801 yards with 9 interceptions.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oxford takes on Nick Nester's team. At the moment, the Chargers are in first, while Lake Cormorant is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Oxford takes on Lake Cormorant. The Chargers have allowed 139 points this season, while Lake Cormorant has given up 217. Oxford allowed 27 points last week as it beat Alan Peacock's team.
