Myrtle is 2-0 against Falkner since October of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Myrtle Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Falkner Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Myrtle will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Last Friday, Myrtle was fully in charge, breezing past Ashland 41-14 at home.
Myrtle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jase Gibson, who rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 88 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Preston Richardson was another key contributor, picking up 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Falkner had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past Byers 63-14 at home. The result was nothing new for Falkner, who have now won four games by 39 points or more so far this season.
Gavin Wooley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 130 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries, while also throwing for 335 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76.7% of his passes. Wooley is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played.
Their wins bumped Myrtle to 1-6 and Falkner to 6-2.
Everything came up roses for Myrtle against Falkner in their previous matchup back in October of 2020 as the team secured a 55-0 win. Will Myrtle repeat their success, or does Falkner have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
