Softball Recap: Olympian Has No Trouble Against Mar Vista

Olympian's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They blew past the Mar Vista Mariners 9-0. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 4-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Alexandra Perez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacqui De Murguia, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was NiKayla Flowers, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Olympian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Olympian's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12-1. As for Mar Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Olympian will host Chula Vista at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mar Vista, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Hilltop at 3:30 p.m. The Mariners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
