Catalina Foothills is 7-2 against Cienega since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. On Thursday, Catalina Foothills was able to grind out a solid victory over Desert View, taking the game 5-1.
Bryce Weege spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brady Jeong was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Parker Jacome was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Catalina Foothills hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cienega). They blew past Casa Grande 17-6 on Wednesday. With that win, the Bobcats brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on JAMES LINZMEYER, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Cienega's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). CARLOS DAVILA also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
The victory got Cienega back to even at 5-5. As for Catalina Foothills, their record now sits at 9-2.
Catalina Foothills took their win against Cienega in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Catalina Foothills since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
