It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Whitko Wildcats ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They snuck past Wawasee with a 58-53 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Whitko.
Whitko had a senior duo take command as Sam Essegian dropped a double-double on 25 points and 10 rebounds and Kyler Krull scored 24 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which Krull has scored at least 25% of Whitko's points. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Gibson, who scored 5 points.
Whitko's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Wawasee, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Whitko will be home for the holidays to greet Lewis Cass at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Lewis Cass is ranked 117th, while Whitko is ranked 118th). Wawasee will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Warsaw at 7:45 p.m. on December 15th. One thing working in Warsaw's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
