This season hasn't been kind to The Leonard Lancers, who are still winless after their eighth match. They took a hard 21-6 fall against Lake Worth on Friday. Leonard was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lake Worth apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Despite the loss, Leonard saw an underclassman step up: Ronari Wilkins picked up 140 receiving yards and a touchdown. Wilkins' longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards.
Lake Worth's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeff L Studdard led the charge by rushing for 169 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Vaughn Braynen also helped out as he racked up 118 rushing yards.
Leonard's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 1-7 Suncoast and 1-7 Dr. Joaquin Garcia (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.2% over those games). As for Lake Worth, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leonard will take on Forest Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Forest Hill comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Lake Worth, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Boca Raton at 6:30 p.m. on October 27th. Boca Raton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lake Worth in Florida (Boca Raton is ranked 168th, while Lake Worth is ranked 430th).
