5A Region IV District 32 recap October 1, 2013
Harlingen South added to the longest winning streak in 5A Region IV District 32 this week by beating Porter, 71-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Hanna scaled the state rankings by moving to 790 from 941 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles were able to move up by topping Veterans Memorial 24-20.
Los Fresnos's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Javier Cruz threw for 103 and 2 touchdowns and Brandon Colon had 75 yards receiving. On the ground Cruz chipped in 113 yards. Mathew Munoz helped Los Fresnos' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 12 yards.
The Falcons' dynamic duo of Cruz and Colon proved to be unstoppable against Lopez, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Munoz helped Los Fresnos' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 12 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Harlingen's Brandon Garza and BRANDON VASQUEZ have proven to be a lethal combination. Garza has thrown for 1,063 yards this season, while VASQUEZ has 23 catches for 324 yards. Derrik Rodriguez from the Chargers leads the league in rushing with 512 yards.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Cardinals' VASQUEZ goes up against Los Fresnos' Domingo Hernandez.
Next week's game between Harlingen and Clint Finley's team will feature a good passing match up as Garza will test his arm against Hernandez's defensive ability.
At the moment, the Falcons are in second, while Manny Gomez's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Los Fresnos and the Cardinals face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Falcons comes in having scored 184 this season, while Harlingen has scored 120. Los Fresnos scored 59 points last week as it defeated the Lobos.
Hanna and Veterans Memorial played the closest game in 5A Region IV District 32 this week, with Hanna eventually emerging with a 24-20 victory.
