The Williston Red Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Palatka Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Williston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Williston fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lafayette on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 4-3. It was the first time this season that the Red Devils let down their fans at home.
Williston saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Martin, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Waylon Geiger, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Palatka posted their closest win since March 14, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Middleburg, sneaking past 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Not much got past Brayden Johns, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Middleburg off the board. Johns is becoming a predictor of Palatka's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
Palatka hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Middleburg struck out ten times.
Palatka is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 6-3.
