The Armstrong Wildcats won the last time they faced the Varina Blue Devils, and things went their way on Friday too. Armstrong narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Blue Devils 51-48. The win made it back-to-back wins for Armstrong.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Armstrong to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cherish Daily, who scored 28 points. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which Daily has scored at least a third of Armstrong's points. Kamillah Brown was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Armstrong's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-7. As for Varina, they dropped their record down to 3-15 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Armstrong won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Vikings at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Thomas Jefferson comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Varina, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Raiders at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Virginia (Atlee is ranked 291st, while the Blue Devils are ranked 313th).
