Freedom Area is 2-8 against Shenango since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Shenango took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Freedom Area, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, Freedom Area got the win against Aliquippa by a conclusive 18-8. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Quips recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Harmony Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Martin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Freedom Area got a massive performance out of Mackenzie Mohrbacher, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Janna Kline also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, Shenango came up short against Laurel on Monday and fell 5-2. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Shenango saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Byerly, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another was Zoe Offie, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-13. As for Shenango, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Freedom Area has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Shenango struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Freedom Area might still be hurting after the 18-1 loss they got from Shenango in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
