The Duchesne Pioneers will head out to square off against the Parkway Central Colts at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Duchesne will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Duchesne earned a 7-2 victory over Chaminade.
Drake Fortman made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Fortman was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jack Burle was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Cayden Wolfe was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Parkway Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past Priory 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Colts have posted since May 15, 2024.
Dalton Pagel tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carter Fleck, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was James Huff, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Parkway Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Duchesne, their record now sits at 14-3.
Duchesne was able to grind out a solid victory over Parkway Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 10-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
