The Collegiate Cougars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They managed a 46-40 win over St. Margaret. That's another feather in the cap for Collegiate, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Collegiate's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clare Aman led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. Aman is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lily Berger, who scored eight points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Several Scotties players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paula Carrillo, who scored 16 points. Carrillo has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Ilona Syzdek was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Collegiate's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for St. Margaret's, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Collegiate will be playing at home against Trinity Episcopal at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinity Episcopal is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. St. Margaret's road trip will continue as they head out to face 1 of 1 Academy Red at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th. 1 of 1 Academy Red presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than St. Margaret's in their respective states (1 of 1 Academy Red is ranked 15th in North Carolina, while St. Margaret's is ranked 123rd in Virginia).
