Baseball Recap: Mattoon Has No Trouble Against Shelbyville

Mattoon had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Shelbyville on Monday. The Greenwave put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 7-1 victory. The Greenwave might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Kamden Tinsman looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zander Piper was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Mathew Miller, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Mattoon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Shelbyville, they moved to 16-6 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Mattoon will be playing at home against St. Joseph-Ogden at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shelbyville, they are taking a road trip to square off against Pana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
