Baseball Game Preview: Granger Lancers vs. Murray Spartans

Granger is 0-4 against Murray since March of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Lancers will look to defend their home field against the Spartans at 3:30 p.m. Granger is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Granger barely beat Kearns the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lancers were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Cougars on Friday.

Hugo Cubillan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Granger let Cohen Owens and Traxten Gardner run wild. Owens scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while Gardner went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those two hits gave Gardner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Pace, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Granger was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Murray posted their closest win since March 14th on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Cyprus 7-5.

Granger's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Murray, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2-1.

Granger's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Lancers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Murray, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Granger continue to outrun the ball?
