Brookings was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Watertown. The Bobcats came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Brandon Valley extended the longest winning streak in Eastern South Dakota this week by beating Aberdeen Central, 49-0. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Lynx.
Mitchell/Mitchell Christian's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kanin Nelson threw for 30 yards and Beau Brown had 10 yards receiving. On the ground Landon Neugebauer chipped in 57 yards. Evan Mastel helped Mitchell/Mitchell Christian's passing attack out by catching two balls for nine yards.
The Kernels' Matt Larson and Neugebauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Larson has thrown for 631 yards this season, while Neugebauer, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 25 catches for 223 yards. Yankton's Levi Davis leads the league in rushing yards with 571.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Riggs and Brandon Valley. The Governors enters the contest ranked 14th in the state, while Chad Garrow's team ranks sixth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Riggs takes on the Lynx. Joe Kramer's team has allowed 118 points this season, while Brandon Valley has given up 58. The Governors allowed 6 points last week as they bested Stevens.
There should be lots of points scored when the Bucks/Gazelles and Mitchell/Mitchell Christian face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Yankton comes in having scored 183 this season, while Kent Van Overschelde's team has scored 70. Arlin Likness' team scored 8 points last week as it fell to Washington.
Huron and Spearfish played the most hotly contested game in Eastern South Dakota this week, with Huron eventually emerging with a 21-15 victory.
