The Galesburg Silver Streaks will head out on the road to face off against the Canton Little Giants at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
Last Saturday, Galesburg faced Morton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Galesburg fell 46-33 to Morton. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Galesburg in their matchups with Morton: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, Canton entered their tilt with Bloomington with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Canton walked away with a 60-47 win over Bloomington on Saturday. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Bloomington is ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Allison Wheeler, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Wheeler is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Jena Goforth was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Galesburg's defeat dropped their record down to 20-3. As for Canton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
Galesburg strolled past Canton when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 61-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Galesburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
