The Vela Sabercats will be taking part in a tournament against the La Joya Coyotes at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Vela picked up another tournament win on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over King. The victory continues a trend for the Sabercats in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.

Romeo Bautista
| 03/05/26 vs King | 1 |
| 02/27/26 @ Victoria West | 1 |
Romeo Bautista tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Vela is 3-1 when Bautista allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-7-1 otherwise.
At the plate, Rolando Solis was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. Jason Alaniz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Vela was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, La Joya narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Bishop 6-5.
Gael Zambrano made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Zambrano was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Axel Pulido, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Ezekiel Hernandez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Vela's record is now 5-8-1. As for La Joya, their record now sits at 12-3.
Vela might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from La Joya when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can the Sabercats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
