Basketball Recap: Brooke Parker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ragsdale over Northern Guilford

Ragsdale easily dispatched Western Guilford last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Ragsdale Tigers fell just short of the Northern Guilford Nighthawks by a score of 44-42 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Nighthawks: they've now lost nine in a row.

Ragsdale's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooke Parker, who went 6 of 15 en route to 14 points. Parker is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Marlei Williams was another key player, putting up three points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Even though they lost, Ragsdale was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Guilford only racked up seven assists.

Leena McField was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 18 rebounds for Northern Guilford. That makes it three consecutive games in which McField has scored at least a third of Northern Guilford's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malena DeLisa, who posted four points along with eight boards and six assists.

Ragsdale's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Northern Guilford, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Ragsdale didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-45 win against Page on the 28th. As for Northern Guilford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-49 victory against Southeast Guilford on the 28th.
