Cambridge and Bertrand are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Cambridge Trojans will take on the Bertrand Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cambridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.
Last Friday, Cambridge came up short against Alma and fell 49-41.
Cambridge's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brady Ahlemeyer, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points, and Hodge Raburn, who posted 11 points and five boards. What's more, Ahlemeyer also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Bertrand had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They took down the Blue Devils 60-42. The Vikings pushed the score to 47-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Blue Devils cut but never quite recovered from.
Bertrand's win came from a few key players Cambridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Marcus Hernandez, who went 7-for-14 en route to 16 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. His evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Thunder Nelson was another key player, putting up 13 points along with seven steals and five boards.
Bertrand was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 4-1 when they've passed the ball that well.
Cambridge's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Bertrand, their record is now 18-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cambridge has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Bertrand struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cambridge strolled past Bertrand in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 62-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cambridge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
