Lake Michigan recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Grayling, who defeated 184th ranked Elk Rapids, 48-28. Jake Swander threw for 345 yards and 4 touchdowns during the win.
Adding to the longest winning streak in Lake Michigan this week, Boyne City beat East Jordan 41-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Ramblers.
Will Noble made the biggest impact on defense this week as Kalkaska defeated Harbor Springs. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Kaleb Hauser was a beast in the backfield as the Blazers beat the Rams.
He went 22-37 with 1 interception.
Tyler McClanahan was the best wideout in the league this week as the Vikings bested the Elks. McClanahan racked up 11 receptions for 146 yards. Nick Swiercz helped Grayling's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 61 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Grayling's Swander and McClanahan have proven to be a lethal combination. Swander has thrown for 1,529 yards this season, while McClanahan has 46 catches for 645 yards. Hauser from Kalkaska leads the league in rushing with 871 yards.
The top two teams in Lake Michigan will face off this week when first place Kalkaska takes on second place Grayling. Jeremy Wilkinson's team defeated Harbor Springs last week, while Ben Brock's team beat Elk Rapids.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Vikings' McClanahan goes up against the Blazers' Noble.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Grayling and Kalkaska face off next week.
Next week's game between the Vikings and the Blazers will feature a good passing match up as Swander will test his arm against Noble's defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when Grayling and Kalkaska face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Vikings comes in having scored 214 this season, while the Blazers have scored 143. Grayling scored 48 points last week as it topped Ed Schindler's team.
The Vikings moved up to 193 from 234 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Grayling climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Elks 48-28.
