The Cranston East Thunderbolts's five-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 64-32 victory over Woonsocket. That looming 64-32 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Cranston East yet this season.
Mya Jiminez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 26 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cranston East's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Dupret, who scored 12 points.
Despite the defeat, Woonsocket saw an underclassman step up: Alanna Colon scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Colon has scored all season. Techar Tarponweh was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Cranston East's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-11. As for Woonsocket, their loss was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cranston East's road trip will continue as they head out to face Chariho at 6:45 p.m. on January 25th. Chariho presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cranston East in Rhode Island (Chariho is ranked sixth, while Cranston East is ranked 40th). As for Woonsocket, they will head out on the road to square off against Mt. Pleasant at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Pleasant comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
