The Conant Cougars can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Willowbrook out 56-53. The victory was just what Conant needed coming off of a 62-15 defeat in their prior match.
When it comes to explaining why Willowbrook lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elle Bruschuk. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Bruschuk hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tia Kelly, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Conant's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12. As for Willowbrook, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.
Conant won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Barrington at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Barrington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Conant in Illinois (Barrington is ranked 95th, while Conant is ranked 351st). As for Willowbrook, they will head out on the road to challenge Addison Trail at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Addison Trail is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
