The St. Joseph Catholic Bruins will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Hillcrest Christian Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Joseph Catholic has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 26 points or more this season. They breezed by St. Aloysius on the road to the tune of 72-33. Given St. Joseph Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while St. Aloysius is ranked 212th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Woodlawn Prep 37-34.
Hillcrest Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Darius Barnes out in front who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Bass, who scored 5 points.
Their wins bumped St. Joseph Catholic to 8-1 and St. Aloysius to 1-4.
St. Joseph Catholic beat Hillcrest Christian 49-40 when the teams last played back in November. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Joseph Catholic since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
