Pulaski County extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 9-4 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Knox Central Panthers. 12 seems to be a good number for the Maroons as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Cal Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Pulaski County got a massive performance out of Ben Gaskin, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Gaskin a new career-high. Kamden Measel also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Pulaski County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
As for Knox Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10. Even though they lost, their still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Like Pulaski County, Knox Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Austin Bargo. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Bargo has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Knox Central is 2-1 when Bargo posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brady Engle and Landon Daughtery stepped up to the plate in a big way. Engle got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Daughtery went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Waylon Frazier, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pulaski County will head out to square off against Adair County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Knox Central, they will face off against North Laurel at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
