Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Moravia

Moravia entered their tilt with Groton on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Red Hawks 17-5. While the Blue Devils didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-7), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Alexis Freier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Freier was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Moravia let Lily Heim and Lashley Heredia Castio run wild. Heim went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Heredia Castio went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Heim is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Taleigh Sheppard, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Moravia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Moravia's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Groton, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moravia will venture away from home to take on Newfield at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Groton, they will head out to square off against Marathon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
