The Overton Bobcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They managed a 80-74 victory over Hunters Lane. Given Overton's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Hunters Lane is ranked 344th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kyree Christian continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Overton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of William Carter, who scored 15 points.
Hunters Lane's loss came despite strong showings from Michael Small and Amarien Kelly. Small scored 26 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Kelly scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kelly has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kenyan Booker, who scored eight points along with six assists and three steals.
The win made it two in a row for Overton and bumps their season record up to 16-6-1. As for Hunters Lane, their loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-19-1.
Overton is on the road again on Friday and plays Antioch at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. As for Hunters Lane, they will square off against Cane Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cane Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 345 points over their last five games.
