Basketball Recap: Southampton's Winning Streak Snapped at 13 Games

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Southampton can now relate to. They took a 75-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mount Sinai Mustangs on Tuesday. The Mariners' loss signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.

Southampton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Alex Franklin, who posted 24 points. His big performance that afternoon made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Naevon Williams was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Mount Sinai's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominic Pennzello led the charge by posting 27 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pennzello has scored at least a third of Mount Sinai's points. Another player making a difference was Brian Vales, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Southampton's defeat dropped their record down to 20-2. As for Mount Sinai, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 21-2.

Southampton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mount Sinai, they will square off against Floral Park Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. One thing working in Mount Sinai's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
