After only seven points in their last match, The Willcox Cowboys made sure to put some points up on the board against the Palo Verde Titans on Friday. Willcox simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Palo Verde 47-13 on the road. Willcox didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.
Among those leading the charge was Ismael Cuevas, who rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Willcox also got a significant boost from Landon Ward, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 81 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Palo Verde to a paltry 128 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Willcox's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by David Allred and Oren Allsup who racked up four sacks between them.
Willcox is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. As for Palo Verde, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Willcox will take on Benson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Benson is ranked 165th, while Willcox is ranked 150th). As for Palo Verde, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Catalina at 7:00 p.m. Catalina is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
