The Penasco Panthers lost against the Los Alamos Hilltoppers back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Penasco took a hard 60-44 fall against Los Alamos. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Penasco in their matchups with Los Alamos: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Penasco had strong showings from Analise MacAuley, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Rochelle Lopez, who scored 17 points. Lopez hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Atencio, who scored five points.
Los Alamos was led to victory by Gerrianna Romero and GG Romero. Romero scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Romero scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Romero has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Sofia Trujillo was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Penasco has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Los Alamos, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Penasco will be playing at home against Pecos at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Los Alamos, they will head out on the road to challenge Rio Rancho at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Rancho presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Los Alamos in New Mexico (Rio Rancho is ranked tenth, while Los Alamos is ranked 43rd).
