Baseball Recap: Spartanburg Day Triumphs

While Spartanburg Day's win against Hampton Park Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Griffins skirted past Hampton Park Christian 7-5. The victory continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with Hampton Park Christian: they've now won four in a row.

Gabe Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Spartanburg Day is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Luke Bryant was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Easton Bell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Spartanburg Day's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Hampton Park Christian, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Spartanburg Day has already played their next matchup (against Greenwood Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Hampton Park Christian, they will take on Greenville Tech Charter at 4:30 p.m. on the 17th.
