Softball Recap: Portsmouth Takes Down Ranked Burrillville

Portsmouth faced Burrillville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Broncos with a sharp 20-3 win. The matchup marked the Patriots' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Portsmouth got a massive performance out of Barbara Rainey, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. With that strong performance, Rainey is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Kylie Boeh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Portsmouth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in five consecutive games.

Portsmouth pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Burrillville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Portsmouth will face off against Ludlowe at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Burrillville, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Johnston at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
