Covenant Day hasn't had much luck against Cannon recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Covenant Day Lions duke it out with the Cannon Cougars at 5:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Covenant Day was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-42 to Charlotte Latin. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Covenant Day had strong showings from Charlotte Hall, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 13 points and six rebounds, and Avery Houseton, who posted 13 points and three steals. Houseton has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played.
Meanwhile, Cannon entered their tilt with Charlotte Latin on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They claimed a resounding 64-31 victory over the Hawks. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-15.
Cannon's win came from a few key players Covenant Day will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Madison Drayton, who went 6 of 10 en route to 19 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakaila Gaskin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards.
Cannon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.
Covenant Day's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-6. As for Cannon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Covenant Day has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cannon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Covenant Day took a serious blow against Cannon in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 78-15. Can Covenant Day avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
