The Ola Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Locust Grove Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ola will be strutting in after a victory while Locust Grove will be coming in after a loss.
Ola put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Union Grove 43-10 at home. Given Ola's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Union Grove is ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ola can attribute much of their success to Jake Holmes, who rushed for nine yards and three touchdowns, and Nigel Newkirk, who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Holmes hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games.
Meanwhile, Locust Grove's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by Dutchtown at home and fell 42-7.
The win makes it two in a row for Ola and bumps their season record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.5 points. As for Locust Grove, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Ola against Locust Grove in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 62-18 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ola since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
