Basketball Recap: Mariah Barksdale Key Part of a Team Effort in Sharks Win

Charles J. Colgan won the last time they faced Hylton and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Charles J. Colgan Sharks walked away with a 46-33 victory over the Hylton Bulldogs. The Sharks pushed the score to 39-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bulldogs cut but never quite recovered from.

Charles J. Colgan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariah Barksdale led the charge by putting up 15 points. That's the most points Barksdale has posted since back in December of 2023. Audrey Williams was another key player, scoring four points and seven rebounds.

Charles J. Colgan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Diamond Johnson and Raegan Cathcart certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Johnson posted 11 points and seven boards, while Cathcart earned 14 points and seven steals. That was a full 42.4% of Hylton's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Charles J. Colgan's record now sits at 4-5. As for Hylton, they dropped their record down to 4-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Charles J. Colgan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-35 loss against Potomac Senior on the 16th. Hylton has also already played their next game, a 38-33 win against Gar-Field on the 17th.
