Mt. Zion lost to Trion back in October of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Eagles blew past the Bulldogs 41-17. Considering the Eagles have won six contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mt. Zion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Knox Israel, who rushed for 119 yards and one TD while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 97 yards and one touchdown on only eight passes. The dominant performance also gave Israel a new career-high in passer rating (144.3). Rashad Montgomery was another key rusher, rushing for 85 yards and a pair of scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mt. Zion proved: they limited Trion to a paltry 2.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Damian Sanders for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mt. Zion didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.1.

Mt. Zion's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Sanders was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Trion saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Landon Kimbell rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 68 receiving yards and one TD. Kimbell also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making two total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Mt. Zion pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.5 points over those games. As for Trion, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Mt. Zion will venture away from home to take on Bowdon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Trion, they will host Westbrook Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' defense has only allowed ten points per game this season, so the Bulldogs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
