The Camelback Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Browne Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Camelback didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Alhambra, but they still walked away with a 49-45 win. Given Camelback's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Alhambra is ranked 335th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Camelback's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaylin Ideran led the charge by scoring 13 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Ideran hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aken Logan, who scored 17 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Browne had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They snuck past Skyline with a 55-50 victory.
Browne relied on the efforts of Adam Chaffin, who almost dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks, and Desmyn Beavers-smith, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Beavers-smith has scored all season. Bill Bayigamba was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two blocks.
Camelback's record now sits at 8-5. Browne's record is now 8-9.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Camelback hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 55.5 points per game. It's a different story for Browne, though, as they've been averaging only 57.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Camelback came up short against Browne in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 57-50. Can Camelback avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
