2A Region 4 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Hector and West Side played the most hotly contested game in 2A Region 4 this week, with Hector eventually emerging with a 28-22 victory. Gus Nichols ran for 101 yards and caught four passes for 92 yards in the win.
Mountainburg made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,227 from 11,868. The improvement came about via a 54-19 victory over Pocola last week.
The Dragons' dynamic duo of Nathan Jones and Frank James proved tough for the Indians to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jones threw for 217 yards and four touchdowns and James had 157 yards receiving. Tynr Johnson helped Mountainburg's passing attack out by catching two balls for 54 yards.
Taylor Houston was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 129 yards on 23 carries as the Rebels topped Pocola. Teammate Chris Mccormick added to the ground attack by rushing for 59 yards.
Johnson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Tom Harrell's team topped Rick Lang's team. The 6-foot-3 senior grabbed one interception and recorded one fumble.
6-foot-2 quarterback Jones of the Dragons is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2070. He has also thrown 21 touchdowns. On the ground, Decatur's Victor Urquidi has rushed for 1129 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Joel Murdock. The Union Christian Academy star has 60 catches for 617 yards.
