Basketball Recap: Fernando Garcia Key Part of a Team Effort in Lions Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mercersburg Academy, GVCS Broadfording was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Grace Academy Knights as the GVCS Broadfording Lions made off with a 67-46 win. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 21 points or more this season.

GVCS Broadfording's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Fernando Garcia led the charge by going 6 for 13 on his way to 17 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Garcia is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nashon Mann, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards.

GVCS Broadfording smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

GVCS Broadfording is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.2 points per game. As for Grace Academy, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

When GVCS Broadfording and Grace Academy next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. GVCS Broadfording will try to stop Berkeley Springs' three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. GVCS Broadfording is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.4 points per game this season. Similarly, Grace Academy will try to stop Heritage Academy's six-game winning streak when the meet at 8:15 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
